Questions & Answers

Flood Prevention FAQ

How can I stop water getting into my basement?

Start with drainage. Make sure the ground slopes away from your foundation and that your downspouts have extensions that carry water away from the house. Seal visible foundation cracks, cover window wells and have weeping tile checked if you have repeated problems.

Is there a free flood prevention inspection in Edmonton?

Yes. EPCOR offers a free flood prevention home inspection to residential homeowners in the City of Edmonton. The interior inspection is available year-round and the exterior inspection runs from April to October, weather permitting. EPCOR can also tell you whether you may qualify for its backwater valve subsidy.

Do you install backwater valves?

Backwater valves must be installed by a professional plumber. Reid handles the surrounding work, like drainage upgrades, sealing and restoring walls and finishes.

Can you repair my home after a flood?

Yes. Reid handles drywall removal and replacement, patching and painting, and can treat the area with Concrobium fogging as part of mold remediation.

When is the best time to do flood prevention work?

Before the next heavy rain or spring snowmelt. Exterior work like regrading is easier when the ground is not frozen, while interior checks, repairs and restoration can be done all year.

How much does flood prevention or water damage repair cost?

It depends on the size of the job and what is needed. Reid will assess the problem and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Are you insured?

Yes. Reid is fully insured, so your property and your peace of mind are protected during every visit.
